UW-Madison maintains a plethora of resources for student and faculty data. As a college that is part of the larger UW system, highlighted in this page are resources created by Data, Academic Planning and Research (DAPIR) that can answer CALS related questions and potential contacts to request data not covered by pre-populated reports. CALS-specific data guidance and resource information can be found here.
Note: Institutional data is classified at 4 different risk levels, and while there is student data available at all levels, including the public, many pages of the resources below are only available to those affiliated with the university. Some of the resources including restricted data require additional access permission. All data usage should only be utilized for a legitimate business purpose. Student Education Records like grades, coursework, and activity data are protected by FERPA and require a “legitimate educational interest” to access.
Relevant University Resources:
RADAR: UW Madison’s repository of data and reports.
OACS (Office of Academic & Career Success): Resources on how to use institutional data and access to the OACS Data Catalog. The OACS Data Catalog is designed to be a one-stop shop for your data-related needs, offering a comprehensive index of data reports related to the work of advising, career services, and learning support community members.
DAPIR (Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research): Can provide additional information on the Tableau server or Data Warehouse.
Common Data Set: Report with standardized statistics that are taken by multiple universities every year.
