Fostering Cultural Humility in the Classroom
Resource Description
The concept of cultural humility is, first and foremost, a process “of openness, self-awareness, being egoless, and incorporating self-reflection and critique after willingly interacting with diverse individuals” (Foronda et al., 2016, p. 213).
Cultural humility has three components:
1. lifelong learning and critical elf-reflection,
2. recognizing and challenging power imbalances for respectful relationships, and
3. institutional accountability (Moncho, 2013).
This resource focuses on the first step—ongoing, critical self-reflection.
